Backcountry Skiing and Yoga

Back Country Skiing

The Mount Washington Valley is the perfect backdrop for touring old CCC trails, up the Sherburne Trail to Tuckerman's Ravine, grand tours through the Great Gulf Wilderness or up Wildcat Mountain.  The region is on the cusp of generating more public access to trails and glades and we aim to be some of the first to enjoy the new zones. We will head into the backcountry for each day's outdoor adventure, location of which will depend upon weather and snowpack. There will be a brown bag, nourishing lunch provided for on snow enjoyment. Safety is always our top priority, so in the event that the skiing isn't safe, we have plenty of other options to get us outside so we will never be "out of luck" on this retreat.

Nutrition

The menu that will be served at the retreat will include local and organic ingredients and will be homemade by the retreat team. The meals are designed to be seasonal and warming to nourish and to stave off the cold, drying effects of winter. Dietary restrictions are honored and healthy snacks, tea, and beverages are available throughout the day.

YOGA

The practice of yoga offers us all an opportunity to turn inward and to find a more deliberate rhythm to our movements. In a world that typically has us bustling at an almost ballistic pace, it is vital to cultivate a slower cadence, to find stillness so that our bodies can process all of the incessant input. I will guide the yoga portion of the retreat with this intention at the heart of our practices. We will flow through thoughtfully created sequences meant to enrich our experience and to complement the physical demands of our skiing and winter adventures.

Injury Prevention

Using our bodies as a vehicle for joy and fulfillment can only occur with a healthy one.  Injury prevention and teaching body awareness is a passion of Lindsay and Hilary's.  As Doctors of Physical Therapy, they see daily how poorly people connect with their bodies.  We want that to change.  As a piece of the retreat, we will give specific instruction and teach the clients how to move and listen to their bodies.
